ASC Resource Base
Hello and welcome to our ASC Resource Base
Across the school, our classes are named after trees and our ASC Resource Base is called Cherry
We gave 2 main groups which are known as:
- Cherry Blossom
- Cherry Tree
Our staff with in the base are:

We use neurodivergent affirming practices, strategies and approaches such as:
- Creating an enabling and communication friendly environment
- AAC (Augmentative and alternative communication) – using all forms of communication including Makaton, visuals, gestures and words to communicate
- Attention Autism
- Co-regulation and self-regulation through the use of energy meters
- Child led play and intensive interaction
- TEACHH style approach
Our curriculum is adapted and modified from our mainstream offer in both core and foundation subjects and personalised in order to meet the needs of every child. This may look like:
- Highly adapted strategies and resources to access learning e.g. small groups, visuals to support, chunked learning
- Providing stimulating, motivating and sensory experiences to promote curiosity and learning
- A strengths based approach to build self-esteem, confidence and independence
Pupils are taught in the Base but fully integrated, where possible, into our mainstream school life. This may look like:
- Attending whole school or class events e.g. assemblies, special events, year group trips
- Attending mainstream lessons
- Attending play time and lunch time with their year group peers
We are hugely proud of our neurodivergent children and celebrate their strengths and successes throughout their journey with us.
We promote independence and advocacy so that they can be successful in academic achievement as well as learning the independence skills that they need for the next stage of their education and moving into adulthood.
Specific Aims and Important Information
Our aim in Cherry is for all children to access a curriculum that enables them to become independent learners. We aim for all children to be independent and self-sufficient within self-care routines and areas of their learning. We also focus on children developing their social and life skills in order to best support them to live an independent life.
Cherry PE is on a Wednesday afternoon.
Children that attend mainstream have PE with their mainstream classes.
Reminders:
Please ensure that you child brings their PE kit into school on a Monday. We want the majority of children in the Base to have PE sessions with their mainstream classes which are all on different days! Having their PE kit in their locker all week will be easier for us all. We will send it home every 2 weeks on a Friday.
All the children will have a reading record, this will be sent home each night and we encourage children to read each night at home and this record then be signed and sent back into school the following day. If your child comes to school on transport, they will also have a home contact book. Please check your child’s bag daily for important message.
