Year 4
Hello and welcome to Year 4!
Our Class Teacher in Y4 Laurel Class is Ms Martin and in Y4 Willow the class teacher is Mrs Beazley. They are supported by Miss Dyer and Miss Cillero.
The works of art we will study this year are ‘Carnation, Lily, Lily, Rose’ by John Singer Sargent, ‘7 Plagues of Egypt’ by John Martin and ‘Volcano Boom’ by Rob Osborne.
Specific Aims and Important Information
At this time of year, Year 4 children will be working on calculating the perimeter and area, as well as fractions and decimals. Alongside this there is a focus on mastering
multiplication.
We will also be extending our writing by using a variety of conjunctions, fronted adverbials and precise, interesting adjectives. Children should also have a secure knowledge of Year 3 and 4 curriculum spellings.

How you can help
Here are some of the ways you can help your child at home:
- Read with your child/ hear your child read every day for 20 minutes and sign their diaries at least three times a week.
- Ensure homework is completed and handed in each week by Wednesday.
- Practise timetables from 1-12 using different websites or apps.
- Apply a variety of methods to help your child learn their weekly spellings using the list of activities, which has been stuck at the front of their homework book.
- Ensure your child has the correct school uniform and PE Kit, labelled with their name and class. Please ensure your child has appropriate school shoes and training shoes for PE.
- Please ensure your child has a water bottle in school each day.
- Please ensure your child has their clarinet in school each Monday ready for their lesson.
It is really important the children read 3 times a week at home for at least 20 minutes. Children need to write a comment into their reading record with regards to what they have read. E.g. In this chapter I learnt that the character was lost in the woods.
