Year 4

Hello and welcome to our new Year 4 classes!

In Year 4 we have Maple class with Mr Smitt, who is helped by Mrs Jenner. We also have Willow Class with Mrs Perks who is helped by Mrs Hollingsworth and Mr Wellstead.

Our painting for this term is Carnation Lily, Lily Rose By John Singer Sargent. Our topic will be the Victorians, which will have us learning about texts written in the Victorian era like Alice in Wonderland, as well as looking at life in Victorian times.

At this stage of the year, the children will be working on using all 4 operations in Maths using a variety of taught methods such as short multiplication, the bus stop method for division, and column subtraction and addition. The children will practise these skills in their homework and we ask that they always show their working out!

In English we are attempting to spell more difficult words with a variety of prefixes such as , pre-

auto – il- ir- dis- and suffixes such as, -sion, -tion, -ally, -ture.

P.E. is on Wednesdays and Fridays for Willow Class and Thursdays and Fridays for Maple Class.

Clarinet lessons will be on Tuesdays.

Useful Links

Here are some of the ways you can help your child at home:

  • Reading with your child every day. We have a reading display that clearly shows us how much the children are reading at home. Children receive dojo points for reading and can move their character through space the move they read! So keep reading!

  • Practise your times tables every day! These will be forgotten if not rehearsed every day and by the end of year 4, the children will be expected to know their times tables up to X12 off by heart!

If you have any questions please speak to Mrs Perks or Mr Smith on the playground at the end of the day, or get in touch with the school office to arrange an appointment.

We are so excited for next term with year 4!
