Hello and welcome to our Year 1 classes!
In Year 1 we have Beech class with Miss Hampton and Birch with Miss Allen. We are helped by Miss Nembhard and Miss Symonds.
Our painting for this term is Spring by Arcimboldo, and our topic will be Spring which will have us learning about stories such as Jack and the Beanstalk and Peter Rabbit. We will cover plants and growth in science.
At this stage of the year, the children will be working on adding detail into their writing, such as adjectives, verbs, adverbs and nouns. We would expect the children to be using punctuation such as ?, . ! We are encouraging the children to use expanded noun phrases in their writing (adjective, adjective, noun), e.g. bright, gleaming sky.
In the Summer term, the children will sit a phonics test. They will be expected to blend and segment words using phase 3, 4 and 5 phonics. They will have to distinguish between words that are real and “alien”, e.g. s-qu-oi-k.
Here are some of the ways you can help your child at home:
•Reading with your child everyday
•Ensuring homework is completed
•Practising counting in 2s, 5s and 10s
•Writing using capital letters, finger spaces and full stops.
If you have any questions please ask Miss Hampton or Miss Allen on the playground at the end of the day, or get in touch with the school office to arrange an appointment.
We are so excited to continue our learning this term with our year 1 classes!
