Hello and welcome to our new Year 1 classes!
In Year 1 we have Birch class with Miss Andrews and Beech with Miss Hampton. We are helped by Mrs Gratrick and Miss Morris.
Our painting for this term is George and the Dragon by Uccello, which will have us learning about knights, princesses, dragons and fairy tales.
At this stage of the year, the children will be working on adding more detail to their writing, for example, using adjectives, adverbs and verbs in their writing. We expect the children to use fronted adverbials to start a sentence, for example, “All of a sudden,….”.
In Maths, the children are working on using arrays to solve multiplication problems. These problems are all counting in 2s, 5s or 10s. In division, children are expected to practically share and group numbers into 2s, 5s and 10s.
In the week beginning 12th June, the children will sit a statutory phonics test. They will have to read real and alien words aloud, for example, “sh-oi-nk, shoink”.
You can get good practice materials here:
Here are some of the ways you can help your child at home:
• - Reading with your child everyday
•- Ensuring homework is completed
•- Practising counting in 2s, 5s, and 10s
-Sounding words out when reading and writing.
If you have any questions please ask Miss Andrews or Miss Hampton on the playground at the end of the day, or get in touch with the school office to arrange an appointment.
We are so excited for our new term with our classes!
