Hello and welcome to our new Year 1 classes!
In Year 1 we are Beech class with Mrs Furnell and Birch Class with Miss Allen. We are helped by Mr Gaisie, Miss Johnson and Miss Symonds.
Our painting for this term is Starry Night by Vincent Van Gogh , and our topic will be Light and Dark which will have us learning about a range of nocturnal animals as well as the human body and senses!
We will upload the Year 1 weekly timetable once it has been finalised!
At this stage of the year, the children will be working on writing complete and accurate sentences using correct punctuation. They will be applying their phonic knowledge to their spelling and will add detail to sentences by using adjectives.
At the end of the year, the children will sit a phonics test. They will be expected to segment and blend a range of real and “alien” words (e.g. snorp, thomp). These can be practised on www.phonicsplay.co.uk.
In maths, the children are working on representing numbers and using their work on place value to solve addition and subtraction problems to 20. We are working on counting in 2s, 5s and 10s.
•Please read with your child every day and record that they have read in their reading diary.
•Please ensure that Homework is handed in.
•Apply a variety of methods to help your child learn and practise spellings
•Ensure that your child brings the correct Southmead PE Kit to school on Monday and takes it home on Friday. PE is on a Monday and Tuesday in Year 1.
Homework is sent home on Friday and is due back in on the following Wednesday.
IIf you have any questions please ask Mrs Furnell or Miss Allen on the playground at the end of the day, or get in touch with the school office to arrange an appointment.
We are so excited for our first term with our new Year 1 classes!
