Hello and welcome to our Year 1 classes!
In Year 1 we are Beech class with Mrs Furnell and Birch Class with Miss Allen. We are helped by Mr Gaisie, Miss Johnson, Miss Mathurin, Miss Adams and Miss Macarty
Our painting for this term is Spring by Arcimboldo, and our topic will be Plants which will have us learning about a range of different plants and what every plant needs to grow well.
We will upload the Year 1 weekly timetable once it has been finalised!
During this term, we will be teaching the children how to extend their complete sentences by using ‘and’. We are introducing the use of adjectives and verbs to make our writing more interesting.
At the end of the year, the children will sit a phonics test. They will be expected to segment and blend a range of real and “alien” words (e.g. snorp, thomp). These can be practised on www.phonicsplay.co.uk.
In maths, the children are working on representing numbers and using their work on place value to solve addition and subtraction problems to 20 using a range of methods and resources. We are working on counting in 2s, 5s and 10s.
•Please read with your child every day and record that they have read in their reading diary.
•Please ensure that Homework is handed in.
•Apply a variety of methods to help your child learn and practise spellings
•Ensure that your child brings the correct Southmead PE Kit to school on Monday and takes it home on Friday. PE is on a Monday and Tuesday in Year 1.
Homework is sent home on Friday and is due back in on the following Wednesday.
IIf you have any questions please ask Mrs Furnell or Miss Allen on the playground at the end of the day, or get in touch with the school office to arrange an appointment.
We are very proud of the progress your children have made so far!
