Hello and welcome to our new Year 1 classes!
In Year 1 we have Beech class with Miss Kelly and Birch Class with Miss Lambert. We are helped by Miss Morgan, Miss Symonds and Mrs Hollingsworth.
Our painting for this term Starry Night by Vincent Van Gogh. We will be learning about owls, woodlands, humans and animals.
At this stage of the year, the children will be working on extending their sentences using conjunctions (and, so, but, because). They will be using capital letters, finger spaces and full stops for each sentence. They should be starting to add detail using adjectives and verbs.
At the end of the year, the children will sit a phonics test. They will be expected to distinguish between sounds, writing words independently, reading words independently, as well as sorting between “alien” words (e.g. snorp, thomp) and real words. Please practice on www.phonicsplay.co.uk
In Maths, the children are working on representing numbers and using their work on place value to solve addition and subtraction problems to 20. We are working on counting in 2s, 5s and 10s.
