Reception

Hello and welcome to our new Reception Classes!

In Reception we have Elm class with Miss Norman and Ms Francis. Our other class is Ash class with Miss Keeble and Miss Johnson.

Our painting for this term is ‘A Weeping Woman’ by Picasso, and our topic is ‘Colour and Pattern’ which will have us learning about colour and pattern from a variety of story books!

Below is the video with the Jolly Phonics songs for our Phase 2 & 3 sounds! Watch the video with your child and see if they can teach you all of the sounds and actions. Which sounds can they write?

At this stage of the year, the children will be learning to identify and write initial sounds and will be moving on to reading and writing whole words. We are also focusing on counting to 10 and then on to 20.  We will be looking at recognising, ordering and writing numerals to 20.

In reception we aim to provide an exciting and hands-on curriculum where children are learning through play in our inside and outside areas to further their knowledge and understanding around them.

We are supporting the children to hear initial sounds in words, e.g. t for tap. We are extending the children who are able to do this to write down the main sounds that they can hear in words.

In Maths, we will be looking at being able to write, recognise and sequence numbers to 10 and beyond.

Here are some of the ways you can help your child at home:

•Reading with your child every day and signing their diaries.

•Practicing writing and recognising your child's name.

•Practicing counting items to 10 and beyond.

•Letter and Number formation

•Frequent writing opportunities.

If you have any questions please ask Miss Norman or Miss Keeble on the door at the start or end of the day, or get in touch with the school office to arrange an appointment.

We are so excited for our Autumn term with our new Reception classes!
