Hello and welcome to our new Reception Class!

In Reception we have Elm class with Miss Trigg, Ms Francis and Miss Macarty. Our other class is Ash class with Miss Keeble, Mrs Clark and Miss Mathurin.

Our painting for this term is ‘Grandma’s Love’ by Monica Stewart and our topic is ‘Around the World’ which will have us learning about different places, families and cultures around the world.

Below is the video with the Jolly Phonics songs for our Phase 2 & 3 sounds! Watch the video with your child and see if they can teach you all of the sounds and actions. Which sounds can they write?

At this stage of the year, the children will be learning to identify and write initial sounds and will be moving on to reading and writing whole words. In Maths we will be focusing on understanding number by counting 1:1. We will also be looking at recognising, ordering and writing numerals to 10 then 20.

In Reception we have a big focus on the prime areas where we will support your children to develop their communication and language, social skills and strengthen their physical ability.

At this stage of the year we are supporting the children to hear initial sounds in words, e.g. t for tap. We are extending the children who are able to do this to write down the main sounds that they can hear in words.

In Maths, we will be looking at being able to write, recognise and sequence numbers to 10 and beyond.

Here are some of the ways you can help your child at home:

•Reading with your child every day and signing their diaries.

•Practicing writing and recognising your child's name.

•Practicing counting items to 10 and beyond.

•Letter and Number formation.

If you have any questions please ask Miss Trigg or Miss Keeble on the door at the start or end of the day, or get in touch with the school office to arrange an appointment.

We are so excited for our Autumn term with our new Reception classes!
