Hello and welcome to our Reception Class!
In Reception we have Elm class with Miss O’Neill and Miss Francis. Our other class is Ash class with Mrs Barron and Mrs Clark..
Our painting for this term is ‘Animal illusions’ by unknown and our topic is ‘Jaws, paws and claws’ Our learning will be centred around animals, their habitats and how they survive. We will be exploring books about different animals around the world. We will also be learning about fictional and historical animals such as monsters and dinosaurs. A few books we will be sharing together are, The jungle book, Walking through the jungle, Dear zoo, Oi frog/dog/cat, Non-fiction about farm animals.
Below is the video with the Jolly Phonics songs for our Phase 2 & 3 sounds! Watch the video with your child and see if they can teach you all of the sounds and actions. Which sounds can they write?
In Reception we aim to provide an exciting and hands-on curriculum where children are learning through play in our inside and outside areas to further their knowledge and understanding of the world around them.
At this stage of the year, the children will be learning to identify and write initial sounds and will be moving on to reading and writing whole words.
In Maths we will be focusing on understanding number by counting 1:1. We will also be looking at recognising, ordering and writing numerals to 10 then 20.
In Reception we have a big focus on the prime areas where we will support your children to develop their communication and language, social skills and strengthen their physical ability.
Here are some of the ways you can help your child at home:
•Reading with your child every day and signing their diaries.
•Practicing writing and recognising your child's name.
•Practicing counting items to 10 and beyond.
•Letter and Number formation.
Please provide a PE kit for your child, which can be kept in their locker and will be sent home in the holidays to wash (PE is every Thursday morning).
If you have any questions please ask Mrs Barron or Miss O'Neill on the door at the start or end of the day, or get in touch with the school office to arrange an appointment.
We are so excited for the new first term with our Reception classes!
