Hello and welcome to  the Summer term in Reception!

In Reception, we are led by our phase leader Mrs. Callaghan. We have Ash class with Mr. Golightly, and Elm Class with Miss Carter.  We are helped by Miss Nembhard, Miss Francis & Miss Adams.

Our painting for this term is 'Beach Scene' by Edgar Degas

Below is the video with the Jolly Phonics songs for our Phase 2 & 3 sounds! Watch the video with your child and see if they can teach you all of the sounds and actions. Which sounds can they write?

In Reception we aim to provide an exciting and hands-on curriculum where our children are learning through play in our inside and outside areas to further their knowledge and understanding of the world around them.

At this stage of the year, the children should now be confident at writing simple 'it is a' or 'I can see' sentences. The children are now practicing writing sentences with clear finger spaces, capital letters and full stops. Some children are beginning to use 'and' and write 2 syllable words correctly.

In Maths, we will be looking at being able to write, recognise and sequence numbers to 20. We will also be working on hard on finding 1 more and 1 less of these numbers using a numberline and adding/subtracting numbers below 10.

Here are some of the ways you can help your child at home:

  • Reading with your child everyday

  • Practicing writing and recognising your child's name

  • Practicing numbers to 20

  • Letter and Number formation

  • Frequent writing opportunities to practice super sentence skills.

If you have any questions please ask Mr. Golightly or Miss Carter on the door at the start or end of the day, or get in touch with the school office to arrange an appointment.

We are so excited for our Summer term with our Reception classes!
