Reception

Hello and welcome to our new Reception Classes!

In Reception we have Elm class with Miss Norman and Ms Francis. Our other class is Ash class with Miss Keeble and Miss Johnson.

Our painting for this term is Animal Illusions by an Unknown artist, and our topic will be Paws, Jaws and Claws which will have us learning about a variety of habitats, creatures and the way in which they are adapted to suit their environment.

Below is the video with the Jolly Phonics songs for our Phase 2 & 3 sounds! Watch the video with your child and see if they can teach you all of the sounds and actions. Which sounds can they write?

At this stage of the year, the children are learning write the main sounds in words moving on to reading and writing simple sentences independently. We are also focusing on counting to 20, and using number knowledge to solve maths problems. We are also learning our number bonds to 10.

After Spring Half term the children will have spellings sent home every week along with their current homework.

In reception we aim to provide an exciting and hands-on curriculum where children are learning through play in our inside and outside areas to further their knowledge and understanding around them.

We have PE lessons every Wednesday.

Homework and Spelling will be sent home on Friday, to be completed and sent back into school on Wednesday.

Here are some of the ways you can help your child at home:

•Reading with your child every day and signing their diaries.

•Practicing writing and recognising your child's name.

•Practicing counting items to 10 and beyond.

•Letter and Number formation

•Frequent writing opportunities.

If you have any questions please ask Miss Norman or Miss Keeble on the door at the start or end of the day, or get in touch with the school office to arrange an appointment.

We are so excited for our Spring term with our Reception classes!
