Welcome back to the Autumn term - We hope you had a super summer!
A warm welcome to all, especially the new faces who are joining Southmead this year!
Our goal here at Southmead is to build strong links between all members of the community.
We believe that a strong school/home partnership is integral to the well-being and success of our children and welcome the opportunity to build positive relationships with all parents and carers at Southmead. We value all of your support and feedback, so please do not hesitate to get in touch with us with any comments or suggestions.
A note to say thank you for all your help fundraising last year. We have raised over £2,000.00 for the school in 2016/17 and we are looking to keep up the good work for 2017/18!
All funds raised are spent in school and the children are actively involved in deciding how they would like to use the money. Last year, they decided the money should be used towards:
•Christmas pantomime for the whole school
•A skateboarding showcase
•Wet weather games between phases
•Art equipment for classes
•Soft furnishings for the reading corners
Our Friends of Southmead School (FOSS) committee is growing and we would love even more new members, either as a core member or occasional volunteer. We usually meet every other Friday at 3pm in the Lodge. If you are interested please do get in touch.
Who are we? What do we do?
Friends of Southmead School or FOSS are the PTA and whenever you see us at events we will be raising money for the school – and that benefits your child’s education. We raise money through fun events and initiatives such as:
•Seasonal events (such as the Easter bonnet competition)
The money we raise is used to improve teaching, learning and classroom environments. We also enjoy raising money for charities too (such as Children in Need and UNICEF) so if you have any ideas for fundraising or local charities, please do let us know.
All parents, carers, guardians and staff are automatically members of Southmead’s FOSS and are welcome to attend meetings. Please don’t be shy; we would love to see you there. We endeavour to make these events as inclusive, fun and social as possible enabling parents to meet one another and develop lasting friendships.
We are always looking for ways in which to improve our school environment and enrich the lives of our children, so if you have any ideas for larger initiatives or if you know of any grants or match funding opportunities, please get in touch.
