Our plastic campaign started back in January as part of Science Week, when we began to raise awareness of plastic pollution in the oceans. Since then Eco and School Council have been preparing for this campaign week; learning through videos and newspaper articles, creating a fantastic ‘plastic’ Eco board, designing plastic campaign posters and organising a plastic collection within the school community.
Justine Greening visit: Monday 23rd March 2018
Our local MP, Justine Greening, was invited into Southmead to hear more about Southmead’s plastic camp Here’s what Eshaal, from Pine class had to say:
“On Monday we had a special visitor called Justine Greening who came to talk to School council and eco council about plastic being in our seas. We did a presentation for her about our campaign. Then Eco showed Justine Greening around the school. After Cherry class performed a song from their class assembly which was fantastic. Then the councils asked Justine Greening a few questions which was really fun. Please use less plastic to save the poor, sad animals under the sea. We are looking forward to our campaign next week.”
Wow! What a fantastic campaign week. Thank you so much to everyone who brought in plastic. It has really made us all think how we can change our habits and use less plastic in our lives.
Wandsworth Recycling Centre led an informative assembly and we learnt how to ‘reduce, re-use and recycle’ plastic more effectively. All classes then enjoyed various workshops focused on these 3 Rs.
